I'm going on a hike over a sand island. Does anyone know any tips or advice about hiking on sand?

Whenever I camp on sand whether it be the beach or sand hill/dunes I build down into the sand a bit on the wind side (usually the water side) And then make sure that side is properly blocking wind from blowing in sand or water since it tends to rain a lot at the beach and sand everywhere is always a pain in the ass and renders a lot of comfort items useless.
