Can we show you how we "winter camp" in Montana?
After decades of shivering on ensolite ground pads waiting for
the dawn, we broke down and purchased a "toasty warm" wall tent.
It makes a great base camp for ski trips.
When you use a sled you don't care how much weight you drag in. :o)
His name is Sampson and he's the family pet. When he was younger I put packs on him and he'd at least carry his own dog food. Now he goes along and can't wait to curl up beside my sleeping bag close to the stove!

Ed, nice shot of your Snowtrekker Winter Tent.
We pour soy wax into last Summer's Gatorade containers
to make camping candles. You can see in this
shot of 2008 camp near Seeley Lake, Montana what a nice
addition the "orange" candle light makes to a ski camp.

My niece and I have took a new years trip to the Guadalupe Mountains for the past five years.......Sometimes the weather is pleasant, but we've also spent nights down to 16 degrees and days where it was a challenge to keep our water from freezing solid. One of my favorite things about going places in the winter time is the solitude.
