Inflatable. Got one at Aldi's for $10 when they were "in season". So far it has worked great, and takes up very little pack space.

FYI: Just weighed the Aldi's air mat today. With stuff sac, repair kit and velcro straps that it comes with, total package weighs 27.6oz. A little heavier than some of the more expensive ones, but hey, it was only $10.

Yes and yes. I have a Therm-A-Rest 2/3 length that I use for sleeping and with one of their camp chairs and a Insul Mat 2/3 length, which weighs nothing and takes no space, that I use for my upper body. I have a Big Agnes sleeping bag with no insulation on the underside so I want/need full length coverage. The 2 pad strategy works well for me.

nice haha double huh?

My poor old carpenters back is such that the extra cushioning and support the inflatable gives really helps me be a lot more comfortable. The Therm-A-Rest chair is a lot more comfortable than leaning up against a log.

yeah i hear that...

I like to double up. I bring a 3/4 Thermarest then also bring a closed cell foam pad for hanging around the campsite. While sleeping I put the closed cell on the ground then put then air pad on top.

nice why is that?

haha that sucks man, i know i have used an old foam pad for many winter camping trips and sometimes there is a frost on the bottom of it

I just bought a inflatable with an internal pump. Folds up to about 6x6x4 and is less than a pound. Feels great on the living room floor, hope for the same on the trail.
