For water, this completely depends on a couple of variables. 1. What the weather will be like 2. Where I will be traveling (access to water or not) 3. Which activities I will be doing. (Hiking, Climbing, Skiing, Cycling) I pretty always make sure...

Depends upon topography. I have carried 5 liters in the deserts of the southwest. I do not mind making a dry camp then hiking down a mile or so for water. I use a one liter nalgene bottle and a 4 liter MSR Dromedary Bag.

How much water do you carry? An extra day supply of water? What do you carry it in? Plastic bottles? Carry Sack?

That looks great!! I think maybe something that would let you use a hiking pole to keep it off your body.

Whenever I camp on sand whether it be the beach or sand hill/dunes I build down into the sand a bit on the wind side (usually the water side) And then make sure that side is properly blocking wind from blowing in sand or water since it tends to ra...

Illinbah - Binna Burra, Queensland

Illinbah is a trek I've done plenty of times before. It's 19km round circuit. The track drops down into the valley, follows the Coomera River, stops at the old logging town (ghost town) of Illinbah and then works its way back along the valley wall, back to Binna Burra. Taking two days to do this one day hike allows us to stop for a swim, a rest, we can explore off the track for a bit, and talk to anyone we bump into on the way.

At 5:30am we woke to my alarm, this time treating ourselves to a 20… Continue

Albert River Circuit - Lamington National Park, Australia

Well, my girlfriend wanted to start getting into trekking and hiking. After a couple of months of small 15km walks through the local nature strip, I thought it was time to take on something I find challenging. There is only so much time I can take being away from the wilderness, and I was edgy for some solitude and isolation.

On Saturday the 14th March 2009, we set off for the Albert River Circuit in Lamington National Park. A 21km hike that reached the border of Queensland and New South Wales.… Continue

Jatbula, Kakadu - Northern Territory, Australia

After returning from trekking and seeing the north of Kakadu I've decided to proceed with something more challenging. At the southern end of Kakadu is a 58km trail called the Jatbula Track. The trek is renound for its numerous creeks, rockholes and waterfalls, aboriginal paintings, and sandstone landscapes. I want to go.

I'm organising a small team of trekkers to do Jatbula Track in May, 2009. At present I'm just seeing if there are any expressions of interest. It's important that you are self… Continue

Thanks A lot for the details. I have hiked over 10,000 miles in my life. Going on month long excursions in Alaska. So if you ever want some advice on long distance backpacking, let me know. I am going to check out the ranger station soon. I work 5 days a week at Big Dad's Pies next time I have a couple days off I am going to go on an over night. I was thinking about doing that fraser island trek. Have you ever done that? Cheers A.L.

Hey Bro, I just moved to Brisbane. I go to Brisbane Forest Park often. I have a slow connection so I can't watch your vids. But where is there a longer trek. I have done all the small day hikes. I am looking for something of a week or longer. I did new Zealand over the summer, and that was great. I am still looking around Australia for some great tracks. I didn't think there was anything long in B.F.P.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I hear the rocky mountains have some of the best hikes in the world. It's on my to do list.

I love living in Queensland. I work in an office job that I love and I'm an hours drive from the surf or hiking destination in which I can explore for days at a time.

The hikes here are less mountainous and more nature experiences. Water holes, wallabies, kangaroos, eels, spiders, dingos, snakes, hot winds are the norm. It's more a matter of survival :D

I'm still a learner and going through the process of litening my pack :O do i really need a machette?? hmmmm
