He's a Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum). Mostly found in the eastern part of Idaho. There is a similar looking salamander, the Idaho Giant Salamander, that is found in the northern part of the state. It was likely aestivating (winter sleep) u...

The Idaho side (Teton Valley) is the "quite" side. Not touristy AT ALL. I hate going to the part through Jackson Hole. It's easier just to hike over the range from this side if you want to go to the Teton NP. Less touristy, more trails, trail acce...

Great pics of the Wind River Range. Thanks for reminding me how beautiful the Winds are. I need to get out there again.
We did not summit, instead we did a 65 mile loop, 7 nighter, around Cloud Peak starting at Coffen Park Campground. We followed the Solitude Trail, except for taking a short cut primitive trail, which was basically no trail, from Frying Pan Lake to Kearny Lake Reservoir. The scenery was fantastic, the trout fishing was great and we only saw a few people. In fact the last four days we did not see anyone. Our trip was the last week in August of 2004 and it snowed three times with temps dropping into the low 30's and mid 20's every night. If you haven't already check out my Cloud Peak photo album. It's one of those places I would like to visit again.
neat pictures ! i made a visit to the tetons in 10/2007. i stayed at the signal mountain lodge. anyway since it was my 1st time there i just kind of explored with the car cause i was there only 3 days. did take couple of day hikes 1 up signal mountain, ( nice view of the snake river and thru the willow flats area to see some moose, ( i did). will probably go there summer 2010 to take some more day hikes. really appreciate you sharing your pictures as you've gone in a lot of areas i wasn't able to. so many places to hike so little time to do it in !! hope all is well. take care on the trail.
Welcome! It's good to see a fellow Tennessean on HJ, even if you've relocated. Two of my all time favorite backpacking trips were Wind River Range and Cloud Peak Wilderness in WY. Love all your photos.
Julie, Welcome to HJ !! Great photos, thanks for sharing. Teton Nat'l park is one of our all time favorite places to visit and explore. My wife and I wish we could afford to live in Jackson, but unless my Lotto ticket hits, I think were out..lol.
