I Would love to make it to the Arrowheads someday ...I need more vacation time, lol.
Do they have wild ponies or is it all wild horses? Also, the arrowhead mountains in CO have one of the largest North American population of wild horses.
lol "Assateague" ...I love that name. That's another one of my favorite places on the planet ...I have a lot of those though ;)
The pic below is a sunset from Assateague island a few years back ...I didn't get any pony pics there though.
Ha ha, true. I have yet to see a "Wild Pony" but I would go to the Asyteke Island which is also close by or however you spell it to see wild horses. But that is pretty damn cool.

Northern PA is a great section from what I've heard. I haven't set foot on the AT in PA yet though. However. it is on my list for next spring if things work out as they should.
Demascus is a great section, but really you can spend ANYWHERE on the AT for 2 weeks and have fun. The PA/NJ/NY section is even pretty decent. You could easily cover a good section of the Northeastern part of the trail in PA.

Something to do while your Broken/Sick/Winterized
Having 3 weeks off due to a broken leg gives me a little extra time to get stuff done. So far, one of the best wake-up calls I've had during this time was figuring out how much gear I own, and how much it all weighs. ALL of it. Even the stuff I'd only take car camping, or on day hikes, or on paddling trips. It's amazing how much there is, when you start making a list. Every piece of clothing. Watch out for the ice!
February 25, 2009, 6:28am: Leaving for work, slip on black ice, land 90% of my weight on my right ankle. Xrays show broken fibula, just above the ankle bone. Clean break, didn't move out of place, no need for a cast. Restrictions from the doc: must wear the splint 24-7 for at least the next week, no walking on it, no driving, butt-scoot up and down stairs, use the crutches for anything else, elevate it as much as possible. Follow up appointment next Tuesday.

Sorry it took so long to reply I haven't been on this website much. Yes I was born and raised in Thorp and its a small town located between Eau Claire and Wausau on highway 29 hope that helps a little LOL! I didn't get into backpacking until I moved to CA. Where do you go backpacking in WI.

- kelli, welcome to hj. nice to see some other people interested in snowshoeing. i started snowshoeing so i could get outside in winter and still "hike". what brand snowshoes do you use? i use atlas 1235's. i also see use you geocache, what kind of gps do you use? i have a garmin vista, an older grey scale. not really very happy with it. not very good reception in valleys and under heavy tree cover. i live in idaho now, moved here from milwaukee, wis. 2 years ago. my favorite areas in wis. to hike and snowshoe were north and south kettle moraine areas.
i love it here in idaho. there's probably 75 maintained trails or so within 1 hour of were i live, but you can actually make your own trail here in the vast wilderness areas in idaho. lately i've started to snowshoe to the summits of some of the lower elevation mountains here around pocatello, the highest i've gone so far is 7600 ft. with the trailhead starting at 5000 ft.
