My niece and I have took a new years trip to the Guadalupe Mountains for the past five years.......Sometimes the weather is pleasant, but we've also spent nights down to 16 degrees and days where it was a challenge to keep our water from freezing ...

Ed, nice shot of your Snowtrekker Winter Tent. We pour soy wax into last Summer's Gatorade containers to make camping candles. You can see in this shot of 2008 camp near Seeley Lake, Montana what a nice addition the "orange" candle light makes to ...

His name is Sampson and he's the family pet. When he was younger I put packs on him and he'd at least carry his own dog food. Now he goes along and can't wait to curl up beside my sleeping bag close to the stove!

I love the picture! Is that a pet or working dog? I ask as it seems to be popular to do dog sledding tours in the winter.

Like you, I enjoy the warmth of a heated wall-tent after years of cold camping.

Can we show you how we "winter camp" in Montana? After decades of shivering on ensolite ground pads waiting for the dawn we broke down and purchased a "toasty warm" wall tent. It makes a great base camp for ski trips. When you use a sled you don'...

I haven't done any winter camping but Iam planning on doing some Fall/Winter hiking, and once we get snow in the hills, I'll be strapping on some snowshoes. My stomping grounds are in central Oregon so we have some nice high desert hiking as well ...

We hike more in the winter than any time of the year. Our Malamutes love hiking but they don't like it much in the summer. We usually stay fairly close to home due to transporting the dogs. But within 25-50 miles in any direction here in central P...

Hi Kyle,

thanks for adding me as a friend.

I see your favorite place is the Great Smoky Mountains. I'm interested in arranging a lodge trip for a my hiking group there for 2009. Do you have any recommendations for nice lodges?

You have very nice photos. I just joined and haven't gotten around to adding any of mine yet, but you can see them here, on the website of the Outdoors group I'm running: http://hiking.meetup.com/362/photos/

I just returned from a trip with 13 of my members to the North Cascades in Washington State, it was awesome. We had one week of blue skies and sunshine and the scenery is fantastic.

Let me know if you ever come to the NYC area...

Cheers, Suzanne

My trip to the U.P was awesome. It rained like hell the first day, foggy, and cold. But it was worth the sunset that I got to see at the end of the day. Check out my site to see the vid of Pictured Rock. thebackpacker.tv You have some great pics.

Sorry for not responding to the post, we have had some really great weather and have been playing outside. Both of our boats have also been used for Turkey hunting, no luck though, but they atleast took the boats out to try and have also used them in some pretty low water. If you have a trip planned to NW PA - the Allegheny Natl forest area- Look me up!
