Hi Len, welcome to Hiker's Journal. I should be doing some trips in Georgia in June. Let me know when you'll be around and see what's going on.

This last week end I went to Witbank about 130 Km from Johannesburg. I had a good camp and the fishermen had a successful day. Two youngsters who were camping next to me caught a take home catch of 23 yellow fish. They threw the smaller fish back into the dam to grow bigger. Interestingly enough about 100ft along the bank another fisherman was bringing in Carp.
All being well I hope to go to Groot Marico for Easter, I have been there before and look forward to going there, it is a well treed park. The dam was 26% full last time I was there and hope that with the rain we have had it is fuller this time. Groot Marico is a small town which was made famous by author Herman Charles Bosman, he and his main character 'Oom Schalk Lourens' bring to life the dry bushveld around Groot Marico and covers the road between Groot Marico and Mafeking. Look forward to your comments on photos. Sorry the Witbank ones are not as clear as they should be but I am trying out my new camera and have to get used to it. I did think of deleting some of the blurred ones but then thought that each picture tells a story, and these have a story of their own. I hope to update this regularly but I have a problem and that is finding it again. I tend to forget where it is which is why I have missed a few weeks. WE have had a change in weather since last week end, our temperature dropped about 10 degrees, still my camp is on and I want to go up on Thursday. I want to get there early so I can find a goodish camp site not that all the camp sites are not good but I want to camp in a similar position to that I camped in the last time I was there.
Well Easter has come and gone, I had a wonderful time at Grrot Marico, the dam is now 110% full to the 26% full when I saw it last. I was staggered by the amount of water held back by the dam wall. It is a very long wall. The dam filled in two weeks according to the caretaker bit it is inspiring to see and hopefully it will stay full for a long time. We did have an hour of rain but then it was over. The most successful fisherman we saw was a guy who was catching Barbel. He brought his own bait of worms and frogs he had collected in Kwa Zulu Natal. I also went to visit the Mampoer distillery. (what is that you ask well it is the same as moonshine in the U S and Witblitz in the Cape) We tasted various flavours from chili, which burned your tonsils to mint choc, a subtle flavour. I 'phoned Ione and she and Chris came up for one night and wished they had come earlier, Chris was blown away by the dam and didn't want to go home, he could have stayed. Now he is talking of coming camping more often. He will bring the fishing rods I dont fisher but enjoy talking to all the fishermen along the bank and see how they are doing. These guys are always ready for a chat. They all have tales as long as your arm and have more war stories than a seasoned warrior. Still I enjoy talking to them. The catches were not good this week end, I put it down to the dam filling to quickly and there is enough to feed the fish so they do not need to be tempted by a fisherman. We had some wonderful sunsets, the moon was full and very bright so we could not see all the stars I usually see but the Southern Cross was there as was Orion and when I got up at 3 am one morning, I saw Scorpio, so I was happy all was well in the heavens.
Well winter is well on its way, it is getting darker earlier and we are all suffering power failures initiated by our electricity provider. Our incompetent government refused to build more power stations so we are subjected to regular power cuts, to 'save electricity' I have yet to find where they save it but they do.enough! After easter I developed a sore foot and went to one doctor who said it was a spider bite another doctor gave me another diagnosis, anyway I ended up with a bandaged foot and have to treat it twice a day. It is almost healed now, anyway I could not go camping this weekend much to my annoyance, I have had to spend it at home, reading, got a cd book by Bernard Cornwell and enjoyed listening to it while I scanned photographs. I am now reading a Cornwell novel. my next camp will be on the first weekend of May, we have been given an extra day off as the govt. in its wisdom added an extra day 'cause the 'workers' in S A can't miss out on a days holiday, reason, we had human rights day fall on the same day as Good Friday, so the workers will lose out on a days holiday, and the constitution says they must have the holiday, enough of the sarcasm. I am undecided as to where to go but am contemplating going back to Borokalolo, will see if one of the caravan groups can come up with a better place. I can also go and revisit Rust de Winter but will give it a bit of thought, so until my foot is better and I have gone camping again I will sign off.
HI all I am back again, I had a fabulous camp at Borokalolo, in the North West. I arrived on Wednesday, there being no school as there was only two days of school this week, because of extra public holidays. Had a good trip, and found my previous camp site and set up camp tent two gazebos, which I use when I go for more than a weekend. We had good weather to start off with and then had a couple of days of rain, but nothing to make me pack up and come home. I forgot my camera and took some photos on my phone but cant download them as yet, don't know how. Had good walks and took a drive round the game reserve section. We had a few visits from the vervet monkeys but they did not get anything from me this time. Lovely starry nights and saw my favourite signs so all was well in the heavens. Fishing again was not good but a few small fish were caught to the delight of my companion, he had a wonderful time and had more energy than a dozen, he managed to eat 3 dozen bread rolls in four days, yes I did feed him and he ate well. Had good long chats with fishermen near us and found that they were either married to Rhodesians or were Rhodesians funny how we pop up everywhere. The dam at Borokalolo is wonderful, no boats of any kind are allowed on it no Jetskis and no quads so it was very peaceful. children were able to play happily and parents did not have to worry. I am planning o go there again but not for a while as I will be away visiting my daughters
