Hey! I hadn't signed in here for awhile, but you left a comment about the bridge in my pics. The double bridge is the Fern Bridge at Carter Caves State Resort Park in Kentucky, if that's the one you're talking about. The one I'm sitting under is actually in the Red River Gorge, also Kentucky. I hope that's helpful! If you get the chance, and haven't been, both places are worth checking out!
you should definitely check out the coast. My family did a road trip in the south coast for spring break. we didn't end up camping much (bummer). the views are great, beaches are sandy with some tidepools, and the water is just warm enough to not be too cold for swimming during the summer. My favorite day hike is Cascade Head, just north of Lincoln City. For a longer trip, you could do part of the Oregon Coast Trail, but a lot of it is walking next to highway 101, so you have to choose your section carefully.
Cool, you should check out the Mt. Hood National Forest. Eagle Creek is a really popular hike. It's mostly uphill, but pretty easy. Sometimes it can get crowded. The Timberline Trail runs 40 miles in a circle around Mt. Hood. My sister hiked a section. It's supposed to be really pretty. I'm not sure if the trail is still open because of landslides. I have also heard that the sikiyou national forest is amazing, but I've never been there. My family likes to camp near Mt. Jefferson, near Olallie Lake. I hope that helps :) Are you going to visit the coast at all?
Awesome, thanks for all the great info. Alaska has always been a dream of mine. Hopefully I make it out there this year. I see you like to ski, I made a Ski lodge group for us winter dwellers.
Wow Mary, seems like you got it sll figured out huh? he he. Alaska is beautiful, not that I have ever seen it in person yet. Tobin is going there this summer and one of my good friends has recently moved there. Hopefully after I arrive in OR, or WA, i'll get the chance to continue to Alaska. I live in PA now but who knows what the future will bring.
Yeah, its always pleasant to be outdoors, with or without the dogs. :) You stayed in girl scouts all the way into high School. Not bad. My mom was the leader for my 2 sisters.
Hey mary, welcome to the hikers journal. The community is growing quite quickly now and is becoming more and more helpful and fun. Beautiful dog by the way, not to mention the rest of the pic. Enjoy.

Where else have you backpacked, hiked or camped?
I'm getting in shape to hike Chilkoot Pass in July...must get cracking! We kayaked the Napali Coast a few years back, that was fun. Last summer we camped our way up to Alaska from San Diego: Zion, Yellowstone, Cherry Hill in Utah, Lake Louise, Banff, Whitehorse, Liard Hot Springs (THE best!),...
What outdoor activities are you interested in?
Kayaking, biking, walking,...nothing too scary, but a little of this and a little of that. I love photography, so I enjoy taking photos while outdoors.
