Hi Gordon, all the photos in my album are from the North Cascades, within an hour or two of driving from Mazama in Washington State.

Hello Suzanne, you have some beautiful photos in your gallery. This one, DSC02890, where is this? Beautiful spot, I can't even guess where this might be. Thanks, Gordon Portland, Oregon

the vitamin & mineral pills are mainly for the magnesium which I feel is helpful for dehydration or muscle cramps, but I don't know if it's actually true. Also, might have a placebo effect ;-)

I'm just chiming in to say, seriously, great pictures. Very jealous.

Thanks. I don't know much about lodging in the Smokies, we camped the whole time in the back country. But depending on what area you are thinking about going to, I can give you tips on what to see and expect.

Oh ok, that I can definitely find out. I live right off the lehigh river. I misread your initial post. I'll go to my pile of stuff here and get back to you.

Hey Suzanne, this place has a decent reputation and is right on the Delaware Water gap just off of Rt 80, which is the shortest point of the river for you. I have been White watering (Kayaking) where they let the damn go off from the schuykill. You have to check, sometime these only do it 2 times a month or so, and those are definitely the more skilled days.

I am sure you have members of the group that are better versed on the area for rafting than I am. But let me know if you have anymore questions.

Suzanne, your welcome. The pics you've added are great. It's awesome that you have created a meetup hikers group. It is great that you are trying to get others who are interested involved in your area. A ton of members I see as well. Nice job!

Do people usually island-hop by ferry or plane?
It depends on the islands, but most people fly. There are frequent cheap flights. Recently Superferry started going between Oahu and Maui.
May I ask how it came about that you moved to Hawaii? (Just curious)
I grew up in Iowa, far from any large bodies of water :-) I wanted to move to Hawaii ever since I was a kid. I moved in my young twenties and hunted around for a job. I struggled for a while but I was highly motivated to make it work. Now my wife and I run a small software company called Ikayzo out of beautiful Manoa Valley.
I always wanted to live in NYC for a few years, managed to find a job here and am now kinda stuck ;-) I still like it, but sometimes wish I was somewhere a little more outdoorsy.
We lived in NY for about a year. The nightlife is great, but the hiking is definitely better in Hawaii :-)
I'm hoping you'll add your favorite shots from the islands :-)
We have some hiking photos here. There are also some nice pics on our TechHui network for Hawaii geeks.

Aloha Suzanne. Great hiking pics!
I'd love to organize a trip to Hawaii for my group next year or 2010
If you do, make sure to hit multiple islands. Each one has a unique character. The Na Pali coast on Kauai and Haleakala on Maui seem like different planets. We have a ton of fantastic hikes on all the islands.
have you got any tips for really nice, affordable accommodation for a group of about 10 to 14 people?
Unfortunately I've never been in the market for accommodations that meet those criteria. If I hear about something along those lines I'll definitely post the info to your page.
How long have you lived there? All your life?
I've lived in Hawaii for about 10 years total.

Suzanne, all you need to do is sign in, then go to photos (at the top) and upload them into hikers journal. This will automatically put them in a photo album on your home page.

That sounds awesome, keep me posted on the likes of that trip. I will do some research and see if I can get some good recommendations for a rafting company nearby. I'll let you know.
