Thought I would drop a note to everyone on Hikersjournal. I'm here at Trail Days sitting in Mojoe's Cafe. A must stop when thru hiking. I'm in Tent City camping out with the craziness. And yes, it's crazy. This town is filling up with hikers as fast as I can drink to cups of Expresso. That's fast.

I'm about to see Johnny Malloy at Mountain Outfitters. Rained all night last night but totally sunny out right now. So far weather has been great. Taking some great video.

So I live in the middle of Illinois. Oh Dear God! Even trying to get out into the backcountry is like pulling teeth. Anyway, I have been dying to get out and do some real winter camping this year...Its March. All the snow just hit the South? What the hec? Atlanta got more snow than Peoira, IL?

Happy New Year! I'l be hiking at Point Reyes National Park in San Francisco on New Years Day. There are miles of trails to hike, 12 of them along the Coast. Right now, the Elephant Seals are mating on the beach, and Whales are migrating off the Coast. Hopefully I'll get some good pictures to share with all of you. Backpacking in the Fall has to be one of my favorite times of the year to get out into the backcountry. Last year I did a 32 mile trip from Elkmont to Cades Cove in the GSMNP. It was awesome. ABC News (Good Morning America) ran a story today about a couple who was lost for 6 days in the Grand Canyon. You can see the video here.

Just goes to show how careful you have to be when planning a trip in the backcountry. Not sure if they had a map or not, but they seemed to be experienced hikers. According to the Grand Canyon National Park, this sort of thing happens more than you think.
