There's no room for adventure and excitement in your comfort zone; in fact, over time you might feel crowded out by boredom and fear. Perhaps it's time to stretch those limits a little, eh?
Steps:
1. Make a fool of yourself. One of the biggest things that holds many of us back is our fear of what people think. After all, you don't want people to think you're weird or rude or cr…

The morning was late and bright and dusty.
I had arrived the night before after a 20k hike.
"Hungry?" the head man asked.
There were 50 faces waiting for my answer.
Not a pig or chicken in sight I thought of the can of spam in my pack.
"Yes" I nodded my head not wanting to insult my host.
He walked into a dark hut, returning he showed me a rifle and four bullets in his scarred hand.
I nodded my head again and he walked into the forest.
As I helped to build a fire, the women started a small pot o…

I am a member of a loosely knit group of wanderers that are planning a 4 to 5 day backpack this June from Tuolumne Meadows, along the Grand Canyon of the Toulumne River into the Pate Valley and climbing back out via White Wolf Camp Ground / Tioga Road
From
Our Yosemite National Park's website:
"Often a place where solitude is eminent, wilderness stretches seemingly endless before you, and the Tuolumne River begins its journey; Tuolumne Meadows lies 8,600 f…

Bandelier National Monument
After a two hour drive, obtaining permits and listening to the Rangers run down of the rules we were on the "Stone Lions" Trail by 11 am. Gaining the Pajarito Plateau on a short ¾ mile traverse from the visitors center at Frijoles, we took a short break to take in the views of the Canyon. Looking out over the plateau it looks like the Stone Lions route is a gentle hike over rolling hills through a pigmy forest of mostly dead Piñ…

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Democratic-led U.S. Congress gave final approval on Wednesday to sweeping land and water conservation legislation that environmental groups praised as one of the most significant in U.S. history.
The measure, a package of more than 160 bills, would set aside about 2 million acres -- parks, rivers, streams, desert, forest and trails -- in nine states as new wilderness and render them off limits to oil and gas drilling and…

Astrophysicist Jordin Kare from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Wood, Myhrvold, and other experts have developed a handheld laser that can locate individual mosquitoes and kill them one by one.
In experiments, the system could target mosquitoes with a flashlight, and then uses a zoom lens to feed the data to the computer, which fires at the insect. Each time the laser strikes a mosquito, the computer makes a gunshot sound. When the mosquito is hit, it bursts into flame and falls to t…

A scrap from my journal...
Back into population for a restock.
I feel kind of unsure of myself here.
Still above tree line in my mind, legs and sleep.
Plans were forgotten, too much to remember.
Easier to just go with the moment.
Have to get back there soon, now.
It is too hot and small indoors.
It is amazingly large wandering forever.
That came out funny.
Trails up into are perfect groomed easy grade.
Moose, Elk, Deer and fresh cat tracks, scat with tiny bone fragments.
Rainbows, lightening,…

Backpacking (in US; tramping, trekking, or bushwalking in other countries) combines hiking and camping in a single trip. A backpacker hikes into the backcountry to spend one or more nights there, and carries supplies and equipment to satisfy sleeping and eating needs.
A backpacker packs all of his or her gear into a backpack. This gear must include food, water, and shelter, or the means to obtain them, but very little else, and often in a more compact and simpler form than one would use for stat…

I love the smell of deet in the morning.
The smell, you know that deet smell, the whole mountain.
Smelled like... victory.

The Observers
by Judy McCombs
The glacier disappoints you:
it resembles (you observe,
through binoculars) not snow
but rather, soiled underwear.
How right you are,
I agree.
Strange,
how your underwear, discarded
(I later observe)
does not resemble
a glacier at all. Continue
